A Nature Stroll

You could call it a “Hidden Gem”, but that expression is so overused. And it doesn’t even come close to describing this small but important nature preserve.

Nestled within the Village Park less than a mile away from the National Polo Center, this could be your new secret oasis for serenity and calm.

As I was out and about to run some errands before the 3 o’clock Polo match, I had about an hour to kill. One of those time slots that wasn’t worth going back home for. So the best use of this 60 minute bonus came in the form of Wellington’s Peaceful Waters nature walk. I mean, I had my cameras already in the truck for the games, so it was only natural for me to take them along.

That way, maybe you can get inspired by the beauty of this place and visit it yourself. The boardwalk runs for almost a quarter of a mile, and it has walk-outs where you can get a bit deeper into the preserve.

You’ll see so many different birds, and flowers, and little rabbits if you’re lucky.

But the best part is what you DON’T see: you’ll leave there refreshed, invigorated yet calm, and you’ve got a little exercise in, all along with fresh air. Go there – you won’t regret it!

Wildflowers are abundant and colorful

One of my personal faves, the Limpkin. Until it’s mating season, then he slides down the list rather quickly.

I think that the preserve’s name must have been inspired by this scene: “Peaceful Waters”.

Nature’s gifts – FREE to you!

Foraging for an afternoon snack…

These beauties are so tiny, you can easily miss them.

Now this guy was literally posing for my camera!

About to take off. I was just a little too close for him to feel comfortable.

Cattails add an interesting texture to the floral society there

We always can see the Moorhens swimming in the water. I think they may actually be standing! Their feet are ridiculously oversized.
